Shower leak surprise
Didn’t expect a small shower leak to turn into a full reno conversation, but after pulling a few tiles we found water had been sitting behind the wall for months. Now we’re hesitant to patch and go small again. If anyone has a bathroom renovation company they actually liked working with, would really appreciate a recommendation.

Honestly your instinct to not just patch and move on is the right one. We did exactly that two years ago, small leak near the shower valve, contractor said just replace the tile and reseal. Eighteen months later we were back to square one with the same moisture problem spreading further into the adjacent wall this time. The issue with water sitting behind tiles for months is that it doesn't just affect the surface. By the time it's visible the backer board and sometimes the framing behind it are already compromised. A patch job on top of that is basically a countdown timer. For a full rebuild in St. Albert this came up when I was researching last year: Bathroom renovation company in St. Albert, AB . What stood out was the focus on proper waterproofing as part of the process rather than treating it as an afterthought. Whatever company you go with, ask them specifically how they handle the wall cavity inspection and what their waterproofing membrane approach is before they quote you. Anyone serious about the work will have a clear answer without hesitation.
